Meiko Morita, a high school girl from Akita, is one day chosen as a special transfer student to the prestigious all-girls school Amamiya Girls' Academy. With equal parts excitement and anxiety about her new life in Tokyo, Meiko moves to the city - only to discover that what awaits her is a manga café called "Hedgehog"!

The café also serves as a student dormitory, where Meiko ends up living and working as part of her required service activities alongside a cast of quirky residents. And so begins Meiko's slightly unusual life in a one-tatami-room manga café.
