One year has passed since Guts left the Band of the Hawk and Griffith was imprisoned by the Kingdom of Midland for treason.

In the dead of night, at a camping site where they hide, the Band of the Hawk is attacked by Bakiraka assassins led by Silat. When all seems lost, Guts returns from his journey. "You destroyed everything." Crying that Griffith is nothing without Guts, Casca and Guts are joined together body and soul. Griffith is imprisoned in the oldest building in Wyndham Catle, the Tower of Rebirth. They discover that Griffith has been tortured, with the tendons of his legs and arms severed and his tongue removed. Seeing Guts and Casca pitying him, Griffith drags his body along the ground. At that moment, the Egg of the King Behelit that he had thought lost returns to his hand. The Behelit resonated with Griffith's despair and screams, causing a shockwave that creates a twisted dimension. The God Hand descends. A nightmare of magnificent violence erupts as a horde of apostles devour the Band of the Hawk. This is the birth of the fifth guardian and the beginning of an age where darkness overcomes all light.

※ NOTE: TV edit of the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc film trilogy with added and improved scenes.

All he's ever trusted is his own sword. No friends, no family, and no place to call home--the solitary swordsman Guts has been wandering as a mercenary through lands ravaged by the Hundred-Year War. Capably wielding a sword longer than his own height, Guts defeats mighty foes with ease.

The one who sets his sights on Guts is Griffith, leader of the Band of the Hawk mercenaries. With ambition buried deep down, and far more leadership ability than his beauty would suggest, Griffith gets the better of Guts in a duel, thus drawing him into the Band of the Hawk. Over the course of numerous hard-fought battles, the comrades all form bonds of trust with one another. The ties between Griffith and Guts in particular grow to become something special.
Eventually the Band of the Hawk joins the ranks of the kingdom of Midland's regular army, but this is nothing more than the first step in Griffith's grand designs. Meanwhile, Guts begins to harbor doubts about a life spent just wielding his sword as a part of Griffith's dream. But little does he suspect the dreadful fate that endless dream has bestowed upon them both.
