Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.

The story centers on third-year middle school student Masamune, who lives in a town where time has stopped because a sudden explosion at a steelworks factory has sealed off all exits to the town. In order to hopefully one day return to normal, the residents of the town are forbidden from changing, and they live out their gloomy everyday lives. Masamune's enigmatic classmate Mutsumi leads him one day to the fifth blast furnace of the steelworks factory, and there they meet a girl who is wild like a wolf and who cannot talk. The meeting of Masamune and these two girls upsets the balance of the world. The unstoppable "love impulse" of the boys and girls who are tired of their everyday lives begins to destroy the world.

Akino is a new concierge at the Hokkyoku Department Store, where all customers are animals. This is a series of short stories, portraying Akino’s growth as she learns about the mentality of being a concierge through her job. At this unusual department store with human clerks and animal customers, extinct animals come to consult with the concierges about items they are looking for or problems they have. As Akino tactfully solves the problems of the customers with a smile, her sincerity gradually softens difficult customers.

Hinano Hoshikita is an ordinary 17-year-old who’s a little shy, and who’s always loved her grandmother’s planetarium.

After hearing that her beloved grandmother’s planetarium is going to close, Hinano wonders if there’s anything she can do to help.

Then one night, she meets a woman dancing beautifully on a pole beneath a starry sky. The woman seems to rise up so high that it’s almost like she could touch the stars, and Hinano is stunned by her beauty and grace. Hinano thinks to herself that if she could put on a show like this in the planetarium, it would attract lots of customers.

With the encouragement of her childhood friend Lilia, she tracks down the woman to her pole dancing school in front of the station. But when they go inside, the room is empty except for the instructor, Azumi. She’s the same woman Hinano saw before, but now she looks glum and depressed.

"What? You want to learn how to do pole dancing? Sorry, I’ve already decided to close the school."

Hinano and Lilia are sad to lose the hope they’d finally found.

But when she sees the look on their faces, Azumi says, "If you can find me four students, that’ll be enough to pay the rent. Do that, and I’ll teach you."

Hinano and Lilia start looking for students, and jump into the world of pole dancing!
